Bats are often associated with Halloween - but they really aren't all that spooky!
These nocturnal mammals have mastered the art of flying - after rodents, they are the second largest order of mammals, comprising around 20% of all mammilian species. While they can spread diseases, they are also useful to humans; they control pesky insect populations and their dung can be used as fertilizer.
