With their shoulder height of up to 130 centimeters and their weight of up to 250 kg, the red deer is the largest indigenous wild animal in Germany. The great, majestic antlers of the male specimen is sitting on its head like a crown, that's why they're also called the "Kings of the Woods".

Particularly during the Middle Ages, the red deer had been subject to extensive hunting. Their impressive antlers were regarded as favored trophies by the nobility.
